If you were like me a few years back I used to kill my plants all the time, I was not a plant lady, mom, whatever you wanna call it. This is not an excuse but with four children to take care of, I was not caring for my plants, I unintentionally abandoned them, who has time to water them when you have four little ones running around the house, while I was in the kitchen making dinner or doing laundry, you know what I mean. Ok I will stop making excuses and tell you I just wasn’t interested in maintaining a plant, as a matter of fact, I was not into home decor or getting my house tidy at all. I was just surviving the day with four children! Ok I’ll stop. So my husband stopped giving me plants, Yes it was him who brought all the tropical plants he could find from Florida to our home in Illinois (not a tropical estate AT ALL) He knew I grew up in a home full of plants, thanks to my grandma, who loved her plants so much. Maybe he thought being a plant mom was in my veins. Well definitely not in that season of my life.
Anyways! Now is a different story, my kids are not little anymore, I’m tired of faux plants, I want my house to have more personality and yes I love plants
So I decided to get easy-to-care plants to start for beginners to start my journey as a plant mom. Here are my five recommendations:
A Snake (Sansevieria) Plant, the most popular houseplant. What I love about snake plants is that you can neglect them for weeks, they don’t need a lot of water and can be place anywhere in you house where there’s no direct sunlight. Perfect house plant for beginners like me.
Starfish Sansevieria plant. Another easy to care plant just like the snake plant. This succulent does not need frequent watering, (once or twice a month is enough) and it does well anywhere in the house (indirect light). Isn’t this one beautiful? I love it because its looks so different and unique.
Aloe Vera plant. Another favorite of mine, I’m in love with the way it looks and its natural benefits too. Its so pretty to look at and its growing so big. It is another succulent so just like the snake plant and starfish plant, it does not require frequent waterings (every two weeks or more) and can be placed anywhere in your house where there is bright, no direct sunlight.
Zanzibar gem. Another beautiful and easy to care. This low maintenance indoor plant is also perfect for beginners, No green thumb required π Do not over water it, forget about it and let the soil dry before next watering. Cant wait to see it grow more and more.
Spider Plant just keeps on growing and growing, look at the baby spiders (offsets pups). I’ve neglected this one a little bit, I probably need to remove the offshoots from the mother plant. This one is easy to care I promise, You can tell Its healthy because it produced baby spiders pups. They love to be moist, they don’t like to be dry or not too wet either. And keep them away from direct sunlight. I will remove the baby spiders (pups) and replanted them to start new plants.
So what do you think?! These are my five easy to care house plants I recommend to start in your journey as a plant mom. You will love having real plants in you home.
