This is one of the questions that we get asked the most; why did we move?
First of all this wasn’t something that was planned at all but an opportunity came up and here we are.
Let me start by saying we loved our previous home, we lived there for 17 years and all our kids were born there. We remodeled the kitchen, basement, added hardwood floors through out, remodeled master bedroom, master bath, master closet, outdoor deck, added a pool, added a shed, and had best neighborhood around to top it all off. We remodeled it to our liking thinking it was going to be our forever home, I alway told my husband if we ever were to move, I want to take this house, like literally hire someone to pick the house up from the foundation and move it to a bigger lot near by. We put so much love and sacrifice in it, we loved our home! Although we cared about our home very much, there was still a lot of work that it needed. Being an old 1990 home meant drafty windows and little outdated details. On top of that, being a family of 6, we out grew the house and needed more space.
My husband is a realtor in Chicagoland area, western suburbs to be more specific, he is always in the MLS looking for houses in the market for clients, One day he showed me this beautiful house, new construction 2020, 15 minutes away. It was located in an area, a small town, very close, known for its mature trees and big houses with lots of acres with horses, of course I wanted to see it.
We felt in love right away, I love nature, so for me this over one acre house was the selling point. For my husband was the Pella windows, the master bedroom on the first floor and the fact that it was new, meaning no more renovations, that was the selling point for my husband. We put an offer with contingency and they accepted, This was in march, closing in 2 months to give us plenty of time to sell our home.
Selling our home in this 2022 beginning of the year market was easy, with multiple offers and over the asking price, as is, we sold our house! What was not easy, was packing and moving everything into storage for two months. My husband wanted the house empty! plus buyers wanted to close in a month.
Our kids packed their rooms up in boxes, they only kept a few clothing items each with their respective suitcase, phones, chargers, laptops and their school backpacks. We did the same.
We hired a few men to help us with the move, we rented two big storage units, loaded everything in the truck and unloaded it again at the storage. We were exhausted! For two months we were homeless, well not exactly, spring break was around the corner so we decided to go to Florida and stay at my sister-in-law house for 2 weeks. After that we came back to Illinois and stayed at my parents townhome for the remainder of the time, yes a family of 6 in their tiny house, but we managed not to kill each other, just kidding, my parents were the best! Kids kept going to school and I was bored as heck missing my home and anxious to start living in our new house.
Closing day was here and we were so excited!
Fast forward to today, we are so happy to be in our new home. We’ve been here 3 months, never imagined living surrounded by trees, birds and squirrels, hahaha yes nature makes me happy.
Follow this new journey as we slowly transform each space to feel more like home.
Love,
Ursula.
